Population growth

The world's population is now approaching seven billion people: almost three times what it was sixty years ago. Combined with urbanisation and the increasing pressure on arable land, staple crops require growing amounts of fertiliser to increase yields, and meet the demands of our growing population.

This is especially the case in countries such as China and India, where farmland is coming under increasing pressure to provide enough food to support rapid population growth. Food-producing land also absorbs carbon dioxide and assists in regulating weather patterns.
